SITES – Sustainable Innovation Technology Services, took part this week in the newly-launched Magnifying Competitiveness and Competences of Green-Tech Businesses in Egypt – MC2 kick-off meeting hosted by Project Coordinating partner, ARCA, Italy. MC2 is a 24-month EuropeAid initiative funded by the EC with the aim of empowering sustainable and circular economy in Egypt and accelerating the transition to UN2030 ‘SDG’ boosting the adoption of green technology-based solutions and the development of eco-innovative enterprises.
With the expert involvement of key partners from Italy, Egypt, and Ireland (ARCA, ECITD, SEKEM, UNDP, and ITWORX), ultimately, MC2 will improve four of the most energy-resource intensive usage industries: cement, agro-food, automotive (including steel parts, weavers), and textiles. Project outputs will include energy and resources audit reports and lists of industrial and technological challenges. These will be transferred through a co-design process into potential business opportunities. The net result is to bridge needs and competencies in the green technologies of the Egyptian private sector and improve both competitiveness and SCP performance. MC2 will also create jobs and entrepreneurship for youth and increase capacities and enterprise competitiveness. SITES’ role in MC2 is to empower sustainable development change-makers, identify challenges and solutions, plan the sustainability of its green innovation and technopreneurship hub, and lead the project in knowledge management, communication, quality control, and risk assessment.
Managing Director of SITES, Leonardo Piccinetti, commented:
“MC2 will boost the connections between the SD transitional process in Egypt and the main EU policies and actions towards a sustainable and inclusive economy, increasing cooperation opportunities in innovation programs. SITES welcomes the opportunity to expedite this process”
