Equal Arts: to Promote Gender Equality in Performing Arts
SITES, a leader in project dissemination and communication, is excited to take on the role of Dissemination Coordinator for the Erasmus+ project, Equal Arts. Launched on 1st October 2024, this ambitious two-year initiative aims to tackle gender inequality in the performing arts sector across Europe, with a special focus on leadership and decision-making roles. SITES will play a pivotal part in amplifying the project’s message, ensuring its goals and outcomes reach a broad audience.
A Bold Mission to Address Gender Inequality
The Equal Arts project (Project ID: 2023-1-IT01-KA220-ADU-000159913) is designed to confront a persistent challenge in the performing arts: the underrepresentation of women in key leadership positions. Running until 30th September 2026, the project seeks to identify gaps, share best practices, and develop strategies that foster equal opportunities in artistic spaces. With an emphasis on adult education, Equal Arts will deliver research, interactive toolkits, digital resources, training for stakeholders, and public engagement through performances and awareness campaigns—all aimed at transforming the cultural sector.
SITES at the Forefront of Dissemination
As the Dissemination Coordinator, SITES is tasked with leading the project’s communication efforts. This involves planning and executing activities to share the project’s progress and results with stakeholders across Europe. Leveraging its expertise, SITES will ensure that Equal Arts sparks meaningful conversations about gender equality in the arts and inspires actionable change.
Leonardo Piccinetti, Managing Director of SITES, highlighted the project’s significance:
“The performing arts have long been a sector marked by significant issues related to the gender gap, particularly in managerial roles. The Equal Arts project aims to shed light on this challenge by building on the current context to design pathways toward genuine equality. This project is especially important to SITES, given its alignment with our core objectives.”
Our Partners in Collaboration
Equal Arts is a collaborative effort led by InDance International (Italy), the Project Coordinator responsible for overall management. SITES works alongside Le Voci di Astarte, the Quality Assurance Coordinator, which oversees quality activities and develops the “Equal Arts Digital Portfolio.” This strong partnership unites diverse expertise to drive the project forward, ensuring a comprehensive approach to promoting gender balance in the performing arts.
Key Milestones and Timeline
Since its launch, Equal Arts has hit the ground running:
- 3 December 2024: A virtual Kick-off Meeting hosted by InDance set the stage for collaboration, with partners aligning on timelines and next steps.
- 12 December 2024: The first Erasmus+ funding installment was received, kickstarting project activities.
- 3 January 2025: The project’s branding and initial Quality Assurance Plan were finalized.
- 26 March 2025: The project landing page (https://eqa.levocidiastarte.com/) went live, alongside an online questionnaire and the Quality Plan.
These milestones pave the way for upcoming research, training, and engagement initiatives that will shape the project’s impact.
A Lasting Impact
Equal Arts promises to leave a lasting mark on the European performing arts sector. By equipping adult educators, cultural professionals, and civil society organizations with tools to address gender disparities, the project will foster a more inclusive and innovative cultural landscape. Its striking logo—a symmetrical face split into contrasting halves, encircled by twelve stars—reflects its mission of balance and European collaboration.

"New Steps Safe Future" Video.
In a world increasingly shaped by the urgent need for climate action, education remains a powerful catalyst for change. Today, SITES is proud to celebrate a significant milestone in the Erasmus+ project “New Steps Safe Future” (NSSF): the release of the official project video. This video marks a pivotal moment in our collective journey to reduce carbon footprints and embed sustainability into school education across Europe.
Launched in January 2024, the NSSF project is a 24-month initiative coordinated by Budapesti Gépészeti SZC Öveges József Technikum és Szakképző Iskola in Hungary. It brings together a consortium of partners from Hungary, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Türkiye, and Sweden, all united by a shared vision: to equip the next generation with the skills and knowledge to combat climate change. Funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ program, the project leverages the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) approach to foster environmental awareness and inspire sustainable action.
SITES’ Role in Driving Innovation
At the heart of the NSSF project is the development of innovative digital tools designed to make sustainability education accessible and engaging. SITES, based in Castletroy, Limerick, Ireland, has been instrumental in this effort, leading the creation of a mobile application that complements the project’s educational modules. These modules focus on six key areas: healthy eating, zero waste production, living in a greener environment, using alternative energy sources, conscious consumption, and reducing carbon footprints.
Our mobile application, paired with a web portal developed by our Portuguese partner, COFAC COOPERATIVA DE FORMACAO E ANIMACAO CULTURAL CRL, provides teachers and students with interactive, multilingual resources to explore these critical topics. By integrating technology into the learning experience, SITES is helping to bridge the gap between digital innovation and environmental education.
Under the leadership of CEO Leonardo Piccinetti, SITES has also played a key role in transnational project meetings, learning, teaching, and training activities, and multiplier events. Notably, SITES will host a Mobile Application Training event in Limerick from July 7-11, 2025, where educators from partner countries will learn to integrate the app into their teaching practices.
The NSSF Video: A Call to Action
The newly released NSSF video serves as both a celebration of the project’s progress and a powerful call to action. It showcases the collaborative efforts of the consortium, highlighting the innovative tools and educational strategies being developed to empower students and teachers alike. Through compelling visuals and real-world examples, the video underscores the importance of reducing carbon footprints and adopting sustainable habits—starting in the classroom.
This video is more than just a project update; it is a testament to the potential of education to drive meaningful change. By sharing the NSSF story, we aim to inspire schools, policymakers, and communities across Europe to join the movement toward a greener, more sustainable future.
Impact and the Road Ahead
As the NSSF project continues to unfold, its impact is already being felt. With 168 teachers and 120 students directly involved in project activities—and an additional 247 students engaged through multiplier events—the initiative is fostering a new generation of environmentally conscious citizens. The mobile application and other intellectual outputs, including a data guide, module guide, web portal, and policy guide, will serve as lasting resources, ensuring the project’s legacy extends far beyond its 24-month timeline.
For SITES, the NSSF project is a natural extension of our mission to support sustainable development through innovation. By merging cutting-edge technology with environmental education, we are not only advancing the goals of this project but also contributing to a broader European effort to create a low-carbon future.
As we celebrate the release of the NSSF video, we remain committed to driving innovation that delivers real-world impact. This video is a reminder that every step—however small—brings us closer to a safer, more sustainable future.
Watch the NSSF video here and join us in taking new steps toward a greener tomorrow.
