SITES Completes First Week of Research Management Training for SMART4ENV Ahead of New Collaboration with TÜBİTAK MAM

SITES has successfully concluded the first week of its Research Management Training Programme, delivered as part of the SMART4ENV Horizon Europe project. This initial phase was designed to strengthen partners’ skills in navigating Horizon Europe procedures and developing robust research support strategies. The week placed particular emphasis on IPR fundamentals and pre-award support processes, equipping participants with the essential tools needed to engage confidently with EU funding initiatives.

Throughout the week, SITES experts guided SMART4ENV partners through key elements of research management, including:

🔹 Research support strategies for pre-award activities
Participants explored how organisations can structure, prioritise, and streamline internal support systems to increase competitiveness in Horizon Europe calls.

🔹 Understanding Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)
The training introduced participants to core IPR concepts relevant to EU-funded research, including IP types, ownership rules, background and foreground knowledge, and exploitation pathways.

🔹 Horizon Europe pre-award planning
Attendees learned how to interpret funding documents, identify requirements, and ensure effective planning before proposal submission.

This first training week represents an important step in building a shared understanding of innovation management, knowledge protection, and research coordination—skills essential for high-impact participation in SMART4ENV and other European research initiatives.

Further training will continue after the Christmas break in collaboration with TÜBİTAK MAM, where partners will explore advanced IPR strategies, proposal development logic, and enhanced research coordination workflows.
