SITES Takes Active Role at WATERLINE Final Conference in Brno

SITES proudly participated in the WATERLINE Final Conference, hosted at Hotel Passage in Brno, Czech Republic, marking the culmination of three years of innovation in digital water education and capacity building. The conference gathered researchers, policymakers, and industry experts from across Europe to discuss the future of water management in the digital age.

During the morning session on Impact & Exploitation, Mauro Amoruso, Project Manager at SITES, joined the stage to present WATERLINE’s Impact and Exploitation, highlighting how the project’s outcomes are being leveraged to strengthen digital transformation in the water sector and to inspire continued collaboration across Europe.

Later in the programme, the interactive workshop sessions provided a space for reflection and co-creation. Francisco García took part in Parallel Session 1: A Hands-on Introduction to Exploring Water Systems in Extended Reality, engaging with innovative VR-based tools that enhance technical understanding and digital skills in water management. In parallel, Mauro Amoruso contributed to Parallel Session 2: WATERLINE Legacy: Building Future Impact Together, where partners and stakeholders discussed capacity building, institutional transformation, and long-term collaboration opportunities to sustain the project’s legacy.

The presence and active contributions of SITES underline the organisation’s commitment to advancing digital education, sustainability, and innovation in line with the European twin transition. As a core partner in WATERLINE, SITES continues to champion dissemination, stakeholder engagement, and exploitation of results, ensuring the project’s impact extends well beyond its official conclusion.

Quote from Leonardo Piccinetti, CEO of SITES:
“The WATERLINE project has demonstrated the power of combining digital innovation with collaborative education in addressing Europe’s water challenges. We are proud of our role in shaping and communicating its impact, and we look forward to building on this strong foundation for the future.”

🌿 SITES at ECOMONDO 2025 🌿

SITES is excited to participate in ECOMONDO 2025, Europe’s leading event for ecological transition, taking place from 4 to 7 November 2025 in Rimini, Italy. This year, SITES will proudly showcase two of its cutting-edge EU-funded projects—FREECOVER and VALZEO—which exemplify innovation in sustainable resource management and green technologies.

FREECOVER (freecover.eu) is advancing sustainable rare earth recycling in Europe by developing eco-friendly hydrometallurgical processes. Using innovative technologies like ionic liquid-based extraction and membrane filtration, FREECOVER aims to recover critical Rare Earth Elements (REEs) vital for renewable energy, electronics, and mobility—reducing Europe’s reliance on imported raw materials and supporting its green transition.

VALZEO (valzeo.eu) focuses on the valorisation of agro-industrial waste by producing zeolite-based composite materials. These materials are being developed for use in environmental remediation and biofuel production, offering a circular economy solution to agricultural and industrial by-product challenges.

As a key dissemination and communication partner in both projects, SITES ensures that project outcomes are effectively shared with stakeholders across academia, industry, and policy. Meet us at ECOMONDO 2025 to discover how SITES is powering sustainability through science, innovation, and European collaboration.
